you find your life soundtrack.

I've had this file on my computer, saved under the title "Myspace," since I had a Myspace.  I got it when my friend Ian posted it, and I played along, because I (a) think life as a movie anyway and want to have a soundtrack, and (b) it was high school and other people posted theirs to share their musical tastes so I wanted to share mine too.  That sounds rather full of myself, but I was in high school.  I wore George Bush and Al Gore earrings I made during the election for goodness' sakes.  Individuality was extremely important then.

Inevitably, this post was near the decline of Myspace, so I never posted it.  I also got self-conscious of my musical tastes.  That defeated the purpose of my original intent, but I was also really scared in high school.  I think the most I ever did on Myspace was deliver a diatribe to a fellow student, standing up for the school newspaper of which I was passionately a part of.  And even then, I felt really bad, so I apologized profusely.

So, I guess, finally, after about nine years in the making.  Here's my shared Life Soundtrack as developed by my high school iTunes with commentary from my high school self.  Notice the amount of Stephen Lynch on there.  That was surprising.  And some of the commentary was almost, prophetic, but that's just my natural inclination to find and develop patterns as a coping mechanism, I think.

Here's how it works: 1. Open YA library (iTunes,Winamp,Media Player..) 2. Put it on shuffle 3. Push play 4. 4 every question, type the song that's playin'5. When you go 2 a new ?, push the next button
Opening Credits: Mockingbird- The Libertines
Waking Up: Wait A Minute- Pussycat Dolls
First Day At School: Temperature- Sean Paul
Falling In Love: Caroline, Yes- Kaiser Chiefs
Fight Song: There, There- Radiohead , that’s for extreme fighting
Breaking Up: Best Friends Song- Stephen Lynch, I guess it depends on how we broke up?
Prom: Baby, It’s Cold Outside- Donny Hathaway, hahaha like I’d do that at prom!
Life's OK: Three Marlenas- The Wallflowers, The Wallflowers always make life ok
Mental Breakdown: Lynsey Wells- Franz Ferdinand
Driving: Coin-Operated Boy- The Dresden Dolls, haha I actually would use this if I ever had to tape myself driving
Flashback: Always- Atlantic Star, so what if it’s cheesy Judy!  I like this song!
Getting Back Together: Shut-Up- Black Eyed Peas, this actually makes sense if you listen to the song
Wedding: Superhero- Stephen Lynch, if you know Stephen Lynch or this song then you’d know that that was random
Birth of a Child: You Don’t Know Me- Jann Arden, haha, wouldn’t that just be the case?  I’m just not good with kids!
Final Battle: You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)- Dead or Alive, I thought that this song would be awesome if I was to have a final battle
Death Scene: No Buses- Arctic Monkeys
End Credits: Lousy Reputation- We Are Scientists, Fin
That was fun.  Thanks Ian to posting this so I could repost it!

Okay.  So I might have played it again, just to see.  And I think iTunes has somehow worked this list into its algorithms, because it's sometimes too perfect the songs they get.  Here's my post-Myspace list now, if you were curious.

Opening Credits: The Hardest Thing- 98 Degrees, what? That's depressing.
Waking Up: Belle- Beauty and the Beast Soundrack, probably the best result that has happened ever.  This opening sequence is one of my favorite scenes ever.  Why?  I think it's all the bread.
First Day at School: This Magic Moment- Ben E. King, I guess I really liked school?
Falling in Love: Fallin’- Alicia Keys, well that's appropriate.
Fight Song: That’s Where You’re Wrong- Arctic Monkeys, I'd imagine this is a slow-mo without sound sort of fight scene.
Breaking Up: That’s More Like It- Selena Gomez, I should be ashamed at how many Selena Gomez albums I have.  I should, but I'm not.
Prom: Aphrodisiac- Bow Wow Wow, that would've been an awesome prom.
Life’s OK: Sandy- Grease Soundtrack, I'll take it.
Mental Break Down: Laughter in the Rain- Neil Sedaka, oooh. This one's good.  I once read this article in Seventeen when I was fifteen.  It was about this unstable woman who acted a little odd.  Her neighbors would often see her sitting in a deck chair out in her front lawn while it was raining.  So this is scarily appropriate.
Driving: No Rain- Blind Melon, this song keeps following me.  I need it to stop.  It's freaking me out.
Flashback: Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Lying From You- Linkin Park & Jay-
Getting Back Together: Hiding Tonight- Alex Turner
Wedding: Yesterday When I Was Young- Julio Iglesias, why is my wedding so sad?
Birth of a Child: Not Even the Trees- Hootie and the Blowfish
Final Battle: The Dance- The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, this would either be really brilliant or my final battle is comical.
Death Scene: I Want It That Way- Backstreet Boys, not even N*SYNC?  I mean, it's sort of appropriate sounding, but it just makes me sad as an N*SYNC-er that this would be my death scene song.
End Credits: Doom Wop- Mister Heavenly, well, that's just perfect.
