you're overtly positive about the New Year

I love the New Year.  I revel in the concept of New Year, New You.  I make to-do lists all the time, and New Year's resolutions are the epitome of the to-do list.

Maybe it's because of this and because I am an optimist, that I truly wanted to share the spirit of the holiday with everyone at work.  But as the day progressed, I was getting more replies of this nature than anything else...

Me: Happy New Year!
Customer: Thank you!  You too!
Me: Do you have any resolutions for the year?
Customer: (laughs) No. Why kid ourselves?  Ha-ha!

Slowly, my positive attitude began to dwindle against all the honest responses.  I tried my best though, insisting that despite their age, they were never too old to have resolutions.

They never thought their age was an issue though.
