I went to the dentist today. My appointment was scheduled at nine o'clock.
Nine came around and everyone else was taken past the counter, but I excused this because I just scheduled my appointment last week.
But a woman came out and sat next to me on the couch--I'm just thankful that I stowed away my romance novel already--and like a high school councilor she was very calm as she told me that she had no idea what I was doing there today. She said that my mom--okay, so my mommy scheduled the appointment for me--never called back to take the offered appointment, so she gave it away to someone else.
Oh.
She was very nice to help me reschedule, but even that was giving her problems because I needed it before October when our insurance would run out. I left the dentist's without clean teeth.
Sad right?
But when I was leaving work, I had a voicemail saying that there was suddenly an opening! Hurray! I called back but just my luck they were all out at lunch. So my options were giving up and going to class, waiting for them to call me back, or driving over and just waiting it out.
I went and waited it out.
Let me just say that it was nice of them to squeeze me in or this would've been a very sad day.
The first thing I said when I got into the chair?
Me: I should warn you. I just came from work. I didn't think I'd be going to the dentist today.
Hygienist: That's okay.
Me: So I didn't brush my teeth again.
Hygienist: It's really okay. People come in here at all times of day.
Me: Okay. Because I just ate a lot of cake.
Hygienist: Oh my...
Every once and a while, during the procedure, she would giggle and say "cake" to herself.
