you're trying to be responsible

In preparation for my trip to Houston, I decided to be extremely responsible and do a lot of chores around the house.  Do you know that feeling?  It's a strong desire to clean dishes, take out all the garbage, and buy groceries; and you feel extremely justified in this type of procrastination, rather than, maybe, packing for a trip you have the next day, because it is all responsible and proactive!

Punch the air kind of work.

So rather than packing for my trip, I was gathering all the garbage bags from around the house, thinking how great I was since no one thought of doing this.  We always wait till last minute to get our garbage for the next day, so it's usually around ten or eleven at night with all of us scrambling around and grumpy.  I even pulled the trash can to the curb, I was that amazing.

Only it wasn't trash day tomorrow.  Pam was pulling back into the driveway, when I was walking to the curb to get it, hoping to hide my shame!

Pam: What are you up to?
Me (smiling in an attempt to play it off): Getting the garbage.  It isn't garbage day tomorrow.
Pam: I noticed, but I admire your preparedness!
Me: Yeah (rolling the garbage back to the house), but (dramatically) I've embarrassed myself in front of the whole neighborhood!
Pam: (laughing)
Neighbor (out of the blue and in the distance): It was kinda funny though!

Of course.  Of course the neighbors we don't really see or talk to would be outside that instant.  My irony came to fruition rather quickly.  I must be psychic.

Do you have moments of accidental clairvoyance?  Or maybe you have moments when being responsible is just you procrastinating?
